Hair Care Tips

If we want our hair to look good and respond well to styling we need to take care of it in order to promote healthy locks. Any treatments that involve chemicals or heat can and will damage the hair if over used. Therefore the hair needs to be prepared and compensated if we want to keep it looking great.

Before opting for any radical change in our hair style such as colour, perming, straightening or even haircut it is advisable to seek advice before doing so. This may involve a trip to a reputable hair salon but it will be well worth it in the long run.

Since we all have different hair types it is no surprise that there are many different hair care products available. Recognising what type of hair you have such as normal, dry, greasy, thick, frizzy etc can help you when it comes to choosing the right products. Once this is established, there is no need to go overboard with the grooming and cleaning but regular maintenance is necessary if you are applying various styling tools on a regular basis. A weekly deep moisturising conditioner is recommended when using heating appliances and a daily leave in conditioner will protect the hair from drying out if heat is used every day.

Whenever possible give your hair a break and allow it to dry naturally as this will permit the natural oils produced from the scalp to renourish and revitalise your hair. Remember too that the hair needs a regular trim in order to help strengthen and encourage growth. As the hair grows on average 1cm per month a trip to the hairdressers should be planned approximately every 2 to 3 months.
