Most of us are guilty of over washing our hair. It may be that the nature of our lifestyles requires a quick and simple grooming process or that we simply do not make the time to properly care for our hair. However, the hair does respond to certain conditions and over washing can leave it looking dry, brittle and even frizzy.
Depending on the hair type some of us may require a daily rinse and even shampoo. This is particularly the case with fine or thin hair or even certain short hair style. More often than not fine hair can look limp and greasy if left unwashed for two to three days. This is due to the production of natural oils produced from the scalp which serve to moisturise and nourish the hair. Some people may even suffer from an over production of sebaceous oils and therefore require rinsing their hair more frequently. In these cases it is a good idea to use a gentle shampoo that matches your hair type along with a light conditioner.
For those who have normal type hair, long, thick or curly hair then it is better to wash and rinse no more than two to three times a week. This will allow the natural oils to do their job without being stripped from the hair through over washing.
The same applies for hair that has been chemically processed either from perming or colouring. Over styling and straightening can also leave the hair dry and brittle so once again a gentle shampoo that corresponds to your hair type should be used. A good nourishing vitamin based condition should also be used in conjunction.
